Is 8mm Film Conversion Over Priced?
Pay Only For Service You Require
An earlier V-Blog addressed the question, “Are Home Movies Inherently Boring?” This Blog addresses the question, “Is home movie digital conversion overpriced?” If you are accessing the same conversion services sought after and required by independent film makers the answer is “yes.”
Professional film makers require a level of digital precision well beyond the capacity of most home movie viewers to appreciate. Professional grade digital conversion devices require technical sophistication costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Home movies are rendered on 8mm or Super 8mm film a comparatively unsophisticated medium and do not contain enough information to require the most expensive digital conversion technology. Conversion equipment appropriate for the home movie market is available for tens of thousands of dollars and the reduced capital expense should be, but is not always, reflected in the price for service.
Many “Big Box” digital labs charge to cover overhead geared to the independent film maker market. Pricing reflects capital invested in sophistication that far surpasses the requirements for 8/S8 film. Why pay for service that can deliver more than you can see on your screen?
Your home movies contain precious moments that are priceless and irreplaceable. Those moments are preserved by digital conversion. They can be enhanced by editing and the digital files are convenient to watch and share. It’s safe to say they will not compete for recognition at a film festival so why pay for conversion services adequate to that end? Check our rates you will be pleased.
