Targeted Video Advertising
Targeted video advertising makes it possible to focus on a specific audience at remarkably low rates. A 25 second ad posted to Facebook demonstrates the point. The video production cost $70 and the Facebook ad cost $50. More than 8,000 users were exposed to the video and more than 3,200 users viewed all or a portion of the video message. The average cost per viewer was $0.04. The video is still available for further promotion and resides on a Facebook page linked to a web site. .
*The typical result on a news flyer print campaign will cost $0.12 per distributed flyer, including distribution and printing. While I have found this to be an effective method it still only returns a 1% engagement rate based on the number of people who respond divided by the number papers distributed. The audience can only be targeted based on location and you can only distribute the flyer to 1000 people for a $120.
The targeted video advertising sought to boost a contest entry. Respondents were required to complete an application and submit a $75.00 fee. The campaign resulted in 3 additional entries from the 3,200 who viewed the ad. The advertiser netted additional revenue of $225 for an expenditure of $120 plus an undefined effect on traffic to the event.

I don’t believe it is possible to compare final results; in the example referenced there was no print campaign. It is however possible to compare the effectiveness of message exposure. The print campaign sent out 1,000 flyers expecting 100 to be noticed and 10 read in some part. The media ad was exposed to over 8,000 ; more than 3,200 noticed the ad and 3 read the entire ad and actively reacted by completing the advertisers’ request. The ease of response on-line cannot be ignored.
